Communication is key when it comes to growing a strong, sustainable business. With communication comes many different aspects of developing your business. But before we can deep dive into communication, we must understand that communication is both internal and external facing. Therefore, you must ensure that teams are adequately communicating to maintain internal operations and ensure everyone is on the same page. And simultaneously, you must analyze external communications to establish a consistent message and tone while also maintaining intentionality when progressing forward with company goals and tones.
A Deeper Look At Communication
Internal Communications
Internal communication is all about improving team dynamics and ensuring your team is all working together towards a common goal. Empowering your team is essential for internal communication. It helps make sure they understand the end goal and are always working with the customer at the forefront of all efforts.
Arguably how we communicate internally can be defined as a portion of your culture as an organization. Our culture shapes how we communicate, engage, and interact. It also plays a huge factor in the talent we attract and retain.
External Communications
Customers are constantly on the move. As a result, organizations are always looking for ways to better communicate and seek out their ideal customers. Organizations must then constantly be adaptable and find better ways to reach their audience by changing their stories and providing new offerings. A year ago, what may have been successful may be an old method of communication that no longer resonates today.
Let’s take a look at how COVID-19 has impacted business. Consumers left their busy offices for remote positions or remote opportunities within their current organization. This shift changed their habits entirely as people became used to staying home and companies were forced to adapt to stay afloat. Workforces became digitalized and technology became even more important. With all of these shifts, the needs of consumers changed. Imagine if your organization is unaware of this shift in your customer’s needs and you continue to market ineffectively costing your organization hundreds of thousands of dollars?!
Final Thoughts
If you’re unable to communicate within or outside of your teams, it’s very unlikely your business will succeed in growing and developing within the constraints established through limited communication. When it comes to the application of communication, within teams we are looking at building team dynamics and morale. On the other hand, external communication focuses on building strong relationships with potential customers and partners.
